Vineyard Gift & Quilt Shoppe was opened by Barb & Craig Mawdsley in September of 2004 and is located in Independence, Iowa.  We are in the historic J.J. Lundy Monument Works Building, built approximately 1904, renovated 1993 and 2004.  Previously, the building was the business location of Wayne Slaughter Upholstery for nearly 50 years, and most recently, the home office of  "The Insurance Works" insurance agency.

Located on the West side of Independence at 915 First Street West, the Shoppe is at home in a small brick building featuring original pressed tin, which covers not only the ceiling but all of the walls as well.  It still has its original pocket door with windows, colored glass, and an original metal sign that has been made over with a custom design for the Shoppe's opening in 2004.   

The Shoppe supplies fine fabrics, patterns, notions & seasonal gifts,  as well as scrapbooking items, primitive gifts, Jim Shore, coffees, cappuccinos & cocoas.  

Part of our original vision was to incorporate local talent.  We have several different instructors, long arm quilters, ladies who make fabric cards, a sewing machine technician and a seamstress who provide their services on a regular, referral basis.

Classes have included "My First Quilt Block", Rag Quilts, Paper Piecing, Free Motion Quilting, Loom Rugs, Samplers, & most recently "Pioneer Hand Piecing".

Customer Service is our #1 priority!  We will help you with selection of projects, fabrics or patterns, and special order materials to meet your needs.  We never tire of "show & tell" and encourage customers to bring in their finished projects or works in progress.

When barn quilts came to Buchanan County, Vineyard Gift & Quilt Shoppe was among the first to participate, choosing the "Grape Basket" pattern to fit the Shoppe theme.  See the 8-foot-square quilt block on the East side of our building.

The name "Vineyard" is inspired by the Biblical passage from John 15:5, in which Jesus said, "I am the Vine and you are the branches.  Those who stay united with Me, and I with them, are the ones who bear much fruit; because apart from Me, you can't do a thing."  Barb and Craig also like the feel of a real vineyard atmosphere - which is itself productive, peaceful & inspiring.  We believe these words reflect the foundation & meaning of our "Vineyard Shoppe".

Vineyard Gift & Quilt Shoppe celebrates its anniversary each year in September with a Customer Appreciation Day.  Each year, the customer who wins the Anniversary Open House Drawing receives a Free Finished Quilt!

Our motto is "FRIENDSHIPS GROW HERE!"   In almost five years of business, the friendships at The Vineyard are indeed alive and blooming - and for that Barb and Craig wish to say "THANK YOU" with a grateful heart!
